What Makes the Written Word So Powerful?
The written word has probably never been more powerful because of the greater reach afforded by computers.
However, the final format has gotten a lot shorter. What do I think I can do better then others who you might be considering? I try to get to the point quickly using three triggers—“writing, photography, and public relations expertise.”
Everything Is Copy
There has to be an arch to any narrative. Good to bad, happy to sad, whatever. For me, the flame was lit when I saw my byline for the very first time in The Chronicle of the Horse. The Chronicle, a global, weekly publication, is still the bellwether of all things for English-riding equestrians. Long before GoPro, I fox hunted with an old Leica camera strapped to my chest with a Cuban Hitch. The siren song of a byline still captivates me today.

Going For The Gold
When both TIME (“The Treasure of Silver Shoals”) and the New York Times (‘A treasure Galleon that Sank in 1641 Is found by American”) heralded the discovery of gold bullion aboard an as yet undiscovered treasure ship, I was there in Santo Domingo. Coincidentally my coverage was published in a travel article in Rochester’s Democrat & Chronicle. The harmonic convergence represented pure luck both for treasure hunter Bruce Weber, and equal amounts of good fortune for me to share the experience over a Thanksgiving turkey stewed with onions and peppers in Puerto Plata’s best divvy bar.
